Map Marker

An offline tool for making any image into an interactive map that you can link your files to.

Map Marker is a desktop tool for building interactive maps for tabletop campaigns, worldbuilding projects, fiction settings, personal lore archives, or anything else you want an interactive map for.

Instead of forcing you to upload all your notes into yet another online wiki, Map Marker lets you use the files and folders you already have on your computer. Add markers to your map, link them to your existing documents, images, PDFs, folders, notes, music, or reference material, then open them directly from the map using your normal desktop apps.

Map Marker is built to be simple, local, and practical: your map, your files, your organization.

Features:

• Local Desktop App:

Map Marker runs offline on your own computer. No subscription, no browser account, no cloud workspace, and no need to hand your campaign notes or worldbuilding files over to an online service.

• Use Your Existing Files:

Link map markers directly to the folders and files you already use. Keep your notes in your current structure instead of rebuilding everything inside another app.

• Custom Map Images:

Import a map image and turn it into an interactive reference tool. Map Marker is great for campaign maps, cities, regions, dungeons, world maps, story locations, faction maps, or any other setting or images you might have.

• Map Markers:

Place nodes anywhere on your map and customize them to give them names, descriptions, colors, and linked files. Use them for landmarks, NPC locations, quest sites, factions, lore entries, points of interest, hidden areas, or anything else you need to track.

• Districts and Regions:

Draw larger areas directly onto the map for neighborhoods, kingdoms, danger zones, territories, regions, or political borders. Custom labels make bigger areas easy to identify at a glance.

Click a marker, open the linked material, and keep things moving. Map Marker is designed to help you find your information quickly without wasting time digging through folders while running a game or writing your story.

• No Forced Lore Wiki:

Map Marker does not force you to recreate your entire notes database inside yet another lore app. It works with your files as they already exist on your machine, with your default apps.

• Demo Available:

A free demo version is available so you can try the workflow before buying the full version so you can test whether Map Marker fits your projects. Included is an example project and a user manual under the "help" context menu.

Installation for both demo and full versions:

• Windows:

Download the Windows build, extract it if needed, install using the setup.exe and run Map Marker.

• Linux:

Download the Linux .deb package and install it using your system’s software installer or package manager.

Map Marker is currently only available for Windows and Linux.
